Sean Evans started working for Complex Magazine as a freelance interviewer. His innate ability to get the most out of interviews didn’t go unnoticed by the higher-ups, and he got a full-time job at the New York City headquarters.
The idea for “Hot Ones” came when Evans met with the Editor-in-Chief of FirstWeFeast.com, Christopher Schonberger. FirstWeFeast.com is a food-culture magazine and YouTube channel under Complex.
They agreed upon the format of the show, and Evans was appointed the host. With the tagline “The show with hot questions, and even hotter wings“, Evans sits down with celebrities from all walks of life and interviews them while they have chicken wings (or the vegan equivalent for non-meat consumers).
The kicker is the progressively spicier hot sauce that they garnish the wings with. For starters, a relatively benign sauce is used with the Scoville heat unit not exceeding 2000.
As the questions progress, so does the heat scale, and the ending sauce — which as of Season 10 is The Last Dab XXX — has a Scoville heat unit exceeding 2 million.
The first episode of Hot Ones was uploaded on the official FirstWeFeast YouTube channel on March 12, 2015, and featured the rapper, Tony Yayo.
The show became a cultural phenomenon, and celebrities clamored to make it into the show. Hot Ones quickly became FirstWeFeast‘s flagship show and the reason why the YouTube channel has 8.6 million subscribers.
Now currently in its eleventh season, the roster of celebrities that have appeared on Hot Ones is a class onto itself, with the recent season alone featuring such names as the Australian actress Margot Robbie; actress/singer/model Zoë Kravitz; acting and comedy legend Will Ferrell; rapper Big Sean; comedian Pete Davidson; actor Zac Efron; and actor/dancer/singer Justin Timberlake.

Sean Evans was born on April 26, 1986, in Evanston, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.
He worked for a time as a freelancer for Complex Magazine in New Orleans, Louisiana, interviewing celebrities and uploading them onto the company’s YouTube channel.
Even with minimal experience, Evans was a natural at the job, and when the higher-ups at Complex got wind of this, Evans was offered a full-time job in New York City, and he has been with them ever since.
Sean is currently in a relationship with Natasha Alexis Martinez.
