What Made Her Choose A Writing Career?

With the likes of J.K. Rowling and George R.R. Martin, Nora Roberts started her career as a writer in February 1979 while she was already a mother of two. Being busy in her personal life and taking care of her kids, she thought that writing would be relaxing. She obviously never thought her hobby would later be changed into a passion. 

In 1981, Roberts had her first book, Irish Thoroughbred, sold after two years of experience in writing manuscripts. Two years into her first book sales and Roberts started taking her writing career seriously.

Nora came to fame after she released her romance novel, Playing the Odds in 1985. This book was the reason behind her enthusiastic fanbase and profound acclaim.

The 69 years old, Nora Roberts is currently married to Bruce Wilder, who was a carpenter. The couple shared the wedding vows in mid-1985. 

Previously she was married to high school sweetheart Ronald Aufdem-Brinke. The former couple got married in 1968, but after more than a decade of relationship, they separated in 1983. 

She is the mother of two sons: Jason Aufdem-Brinke and Dan Aufdem-Brinke from her first husband. 


Nora Roberts was born as Eleanor Marie Robertson on October 10, 1950, in Silver Spring, Maryland. She is the youngest daughter of Bernard E. Robertson and Eleanor Robertson among five. Her parents were avid readers.
