Keegan-Michael Key was born on March 22, 1971, in Southfield, Michigan, the United States to parents Leroy McDuffie and Carrie Herr.
On the other hand, he was very young when he was adopted by social workers, Michael Key and Patricia Walsh. He came to know that he had 2 half-brothers, including Dwayne McDuffie, through his biological father after both of their death.
The Lion King actor graduated holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1993. Later, in 1996, he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in a theatre at Pennsylvania State University.
