John G.Trump was an American electrical engineer,  physicist, and inventor. He also received the US president Ronald Reagan’s National Medal of Science. Trump was also a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology while being a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Early Life Information

John G.Trump was born as the youngest child to German immigrants Frederick Trump and Elizabeth Christ Trump on August 21, 1907 in  New York City.

His brother Fred started working with thier mother in real estate development and management during his teenage days. John also started working together for building a house but later on, he discontinued and started his career in electrical engineering.

Talking about his educational background, he joined New York University Tandon School of Engineering from where he completed his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1992. For his masters, he joined  Columbia University. He has also done a doctorate of electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Was He Married or Not?

The late electrical engineer was married to Elora Sauerbrun. He was the father of three kids: two sons, late John Gordon Trump (1938–2012) and Christine Philp, and a daughter Karen Ingraham. He is the paternal uncle of President Donald Trump.

Death

John G. Trump died at the age of 79 after a longterm illness at his home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was survived by his three kids and six grandchildren.

His Professional Career

While Trump was the faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he studied the voltage-insulation properties of high vacuum and compressed gases. Later on, he designed one of the first million-volt X-ray generators while working with Prof. Robert J. Van de Graaff. The generator was first used clinically at the Collis P. Huntington Memorial Hospital in Boston around 1937.

In 1946, he alongside Dr. Van de Graaff and Dr. Denis M. Robinson created the Van de Graaf Electrostatic generator from their company, High Voltage Engineering Corporation.

In 1946, he founded the High Voltage Engineering Corporation along with  Dr. Van de Graaff and Dr. Denis M. Robinson. A few years before, Dr. Trump was busy in developing radars. In 1944, he was appointed the director of the British branch of MIT Radiation Lab in 1944.

After the war John G. Trump became the Department of Radiology at the Lahey Clinic in Boston and later on, was appointed as the Chairman of its board and under his direction, rotational radiation therapy was developed. He also developed the use of high energy electors for the treatment of superficial skin lesions.

In 1973, he became the professor emeritus at M.I.T. as a senior lecturer. Apart from all this, he was also the author of around 80 scientific publications.
