Jim Davis was born Marlin Davis on August 26, 1909, in Edgerton, Missouri, the United States to parents Lucian Davis and Ethyl Offutt Davis.

Dallas star Jim Davis was married to Blanche Hammerer. The late actor met his wife at the club, Mocambo, after his 2 short failed marriages on the Sunset Strip. The couple married in 1945 was blessed with a child, Tara Diane Davis on January 15, 1953.
The pair went through a very difficult phase after their daughter died because of the motor vehicle collision (MVC) on February 9, 1970. Their only child was murdered at the age of 17.
