Holland Taylor was born Holland Virginia Taylor on January 14, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S to Virginia Taylor and C. Tracy Taylor. She studied at Westtown School before attending Bennington College and graduating in 1964.  

The 77-year-old is openly homosexual and has said in an interview that most of her partners have been women. It was confirmed that she was dating actress Sarah Paulson (age 45), who is 32 years her junior.
