Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper was born on 22nd June 1953 in New York City, the United States of America to Catrine Gallo and Fred Lauper. She is an American as per her nationality and has Mixed (Swiss-German, German, and Sicilian-Italian) ethnic descent.

Cyndi Lauper grew up alongside her older sister Ellen and younger brother Fred. She went to Richmond Hill High School, however, she was expelled from the high school. She completed her high school diploma. She then enrolled at Johnson State College.

During the initial stage of her career, she performed as a vocalist with various cover bands. In 2978, she met John Turi via her manager Ted Rosenblatt. Together, they formed a band named Blue Angel and recorded a demo tape of original music.      

Their tape reached Steve Massarsky who was the manager of The Allman Brother Band. He eventually liked Cynthia’s voice and bought Blue Angels’s contract for $5,000 and became their manager. 

Blue Angel was later signed by Polydor Records and released a self-titled album in 1980. After the band broke up, Lauper worked in retail stores, waitressing at IHOP, and singing in local clubs due to her financial problems.

In 1981, she met David Wolf who quickly took over as her manager. She then sign a recording deal with Portrait Records, a subsidiary of Epic Records. 

On 14th October 1983, she released her debut solo album titles She’s So Unusual. The album includes hit singles like Girls Just Want To Have Fun, All Through the Night, When You Were Mine, and the album peaked at no.4 in the US. 

She released her album’s single, Time After Time, on 27th January 1984 with Epic Records. The song debuted at no. on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.

Who Is She Married To?

True Colors singer is married to actor David Thornton whom she met during the set of Off and Running in 1991. They fell in love shortly and married on 24th November 1991. 

Together they share a son named Declyn Wallace Thornton born on 19th November 1997. 

Prior to her marriage with David, she was in a relationship with her previous manager Dave Wolf. They reportedly dated for about six and a half years.
